This spring at the South West Tourism Awards, we were overjoyed to receive Silver for the Dog-Friendly Business Award!
We had already won Gold within the 2034/2024 Cornwall Tourism Awards back in November 2023, which we are still ecstatic about. Walking away from the South West Tourism Awards with Silver feels just as big of an achievement, as the region this covers is much larger, and the competition across the region is unbelievable. For us, this Silver award is a huge honour to accept, and one that will sit front and centre of our growing awards cabinet – AKA a gorgeous shelf in our office!
We pride ourselves on our grounds, cottages and our environment, equipped for the whole family, and we love to welcome four-legged friends on your stay, very much with open arms. Our historic site has been designed to be inclusive for people and pups alike, with features specifically for your dog to enjoy during their stay.
We love them so much, we even have a dedicated Dog Welcome Pack just for your pup, so that they can feel welcomed on their holiday. This pack is full of information, and high quality products, including a dog tag to ensure your furry friend doesn’t get lost during their holiday, and numerous other goodies. Each cottage is also equipped with a Poppy & Teds Luxury bed, ready to curl up in after a day adventuring around the countryside or along some of our stunning beaches. In addition, on site, we have Marley’s Bar where you can meet and greet other dogs on holiday over a dog-friendly beer, and there is a doggy shower for cleaning down those muddy paws after a wander in the woods.
Kilminorth has been created to be your home-from-home in the countryside, surrounded by fields, wildflowers and woodlands. Originally mentioned in the Domesday Book published 1086, the site has undergone a series of transformation and various ownership, from Lords and Admirals to becoming a farm up until 1980. Its rich history has been lovingly retained, so that you can enjoy hours of dog walks amongst the grounds and through a woodland that is over 400 years old.
We are very lucky with our location, not only do we boast beautiful views of the Cornish countryside, and have on site access to an ancient woodland, we are also placed very close to a whole host of dog-welcoming places, in both Looe and further afield.
We keep an updated list of these on our website, and on our tablets within our cottages, but here is a quick overview of some of our guest favourites for a trip out:
Talland Bay
Talland Bay is well known for being dog-friendly and has plenty to explore. There are rockpools for investigating, clear waters for swimming, coastal trails for hiking and a cafe welcoming you with your four-legged family member for food and drink. It is about 3 miles from our cottages, perfect for a quick visit during your stay.
Polperro
A postcard-picturesque fishing village within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Polperro is renowned for its rugged coastline, stunning cliffs, and scenic landscapes. Our canine visitors love exploring the cobbled streets and natural harbour, as there are a multitude of dog-friendly cafés and pubs to enjoy on your visit. Polperro is only about 4 miles from our site, just along from Talland Bay.
Seaton Beach
Part of the stunning Jurassic coastline, Seaton Beach is over a mile of pebble and sandy beach, perfect for exploring rockpools at low tide and splashing paws at when the sea is up. The town is relaxed and peaceful and welcomes dogs to a variety of cafés and restaurants. At approximately 8 miles from your cottage, it’s a great choice for exploring the local area just beyond Looe.
Treyarnon
The beach at Treyarnon is nestled between sand dunes and low cliffs, and is dog-friendly all round so you can enjoy exploring any time you come to visit. It is mostly unspoilt by tourism so boasts a beautiful expanse of sand for fetch and chase games with other dogs exploring the beach. This popular location is 40 miles from Kilminorth, perfect for a day of adventuring on the north coast.
When you return from your adventures, you can feel welcomed back to your cosy cottage, wash down paws and enjoy the tranquillity of the surrounding natural landscape.
We also love to entertain to help you make the most of your time at Kilminorth. We have an exciting calendar of events throughout the year, most of which are dog-friendly so that the whole family, four-legged included, can be part of any festivities, activities and memory-making moments. We also plan dog-friendly specific events, where we invite dog owners and their beloved companions down for some delicious dog-friendly treats, meeting other dog owners and furry friends, whilst raising money for local charities.
We look forward to welcoming you all to our beautifully converted cottages, be it for an event, a short getaway or a long overdue family holiday. To choose your cottage, you can view them all here or contact us on info@kilminorth.co.uk.
