WOW.
10 years ago, back in 2013, we hosted our first EVER wedding ceremony which saw Nicole and Colin tie the knot. We aren’t too sure where that decade has gone, but here we are now, having survived a global pandemic for good measure – and we’re still creating bespoke weddings that once enchanted Nicole and Colin to say “I Do” in our stunning stone-walled paddock.
Recently we also had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Nicole and Colin back to Kilminorth, as guests with their two wonderful children. It’s so lovely to see previous guests anytime of course, but this couple hold a very special place in our hearts. Their wedding was such a beautiful occasion, and honestly? It inspired us to focus on weddings as a permanent offering at Kilminorth – something that has been so important for us over the years.
We had to take the opportunity to grab a photo of the family of four at the very same paddock they spoke their vows to one another. This isn’t the first time they have visited and stood at the same spot, we also have this photograph of them, post-wedding about eight years ago. It’s so special to see that their marriage has continued to blossom, and of course welcoming the next generation to Kilminorth is pretty awesome too.
In this last decade, we have hosted many weddings, each completely tailored to the couple – no set package weddings here! It would be IMPOSSIBLE to upload every wedding that has taken place here so with that in mind, we had a chat with Jayne (owner of Kilminorth, AKA “The Wedding Planning Whiz”) and asked her a few questions to highlight some spectacular days that have been celebrated at Kilminorth.
What wedding do you remember the most?
“Hmm – it would have to be a very early wedding back in 2016, maybe when we were more or less a tent in a field. How things have moved on now! Our electrics were not the greatest and one of the band members dropped a guitar plug on wet grass and fused the whole venue. It took us about 15 mins of blind panic to find the fault and get the power on but the party went on… luckily Mr Brightside was playing so the whole wedding party just kept on singing with phone lights… It remains today one of my favourite songs!“
The wedding with the most special details?
“This is a hard one to answer. All weddings are incredibly beautiful and so well thought out. However, Ben and Nicole who tied the knot back in 2018 had stunning table décor which remains well-embedded in my mind. They also included awesome fairground games and kept their guests thoroughly entertained – there was a lot of attention paid to small details.“
Which wedding breakfast stood out the most to you?
“This question is impossible to answer. All couples are encouraged to really make the day their own, which means we have become host to a variety of awesome caterers. There have been some really creative canapés which have blown me away though! And we’re always happy to recommend amazing caterer companies for anyone who is just getting started with planning their wedding day.“
Who was the most adventurous?
“We have had so many days here that have seen our couples become adventurous. We’ve had pool parties, floating candles on the pool, bouncy castles, caricature drawings, soft play, toasted marshmallows around the fire… However Naz and Matia who wed here back in 2015 had an incredibly diverse ceremony, fusing two religions together – South American and Iranian. So that one was really quite special.”
Why do you think couples choose to get married at Kilminorth?
“For me, I think it is about freedom and choice. All couples have the ability to express themselves in the wedding, rather than having a set format to follow. The wedding can be completely tailored around the couple, and of course the opportunity to have exclusive venue hire so you can have a weekend away with your besties is an added bonus. Also, not forgetting the incredible location.“
A piece of advice you have given to couples that have planned a wedding at Kilminorth?
“Do not worry about the weather. It is the one element that cannot be controlled and what will be, will be – you can never trust the weatherman! Just focus on the experience, your partner, the loved ones you’re surrounded by.“
So many wonderful moments to look back on and so much to look forward to. Kilminorth is only evolving and we pride ourselves on the weddings we bring together.
